2022 Programs

December 20, 2022 - Party Time! Our annual holiday party is this month. This will be an in-person meeting only, sorry no Zoom.

November 21, 2022 - There is lots going on this month. We'll reveal the viewer's choice quilts from our quilt show. We'll have a quilt show wrap-up. We'll al-so celebrate the 35th anniversary of our quilt club. Join us in-person or on Zoom for a fun evening.

October 18, 2022 - Our program this month is dedicated to our Quilt Show preparations and turning in our quilts. Please bring your registered quilts, items for the boutique and grandma's attic (baked goods should be dropped off the mornings of the show). The process to submit your quilts may take some time. You might want to bring a hand project to work on while you wait.

September 20, 2022 - Our challenge quilts will be revealed.

August 16, 2022 - Kathryn Jenson White will be sharing her passion for ABC quilts. She has a talk and trunk show with over 60 quilts to show us.

July 19,2022 - Civil War Potholder Quilts and Our Ice Cream Social. This meeting will be in person and on Zoom. Kate Mulberger will be talking about Civil War Potholder Quilts (a quilt as you go technique that began before the civil war).

June 21 - Once you have enjoyed our annual potluck picnic dinner, you are going to be inspired to create some wonderful items for the quilt show boutique. This program is called Peek-a-Boutique.

May 17, 2022 Zoom Meeting - Our Zoom meeting in May will be homegrown. Members of our guild will be showing and telling us about the much loved quilts of their families and the people who made them.

April 19, 2022 - We are in person this month! Our meeting will be a hybrid with Zoom for those who can't attend the meeting. Our speaker, Linda Martin-Mills will tell us about her journey into quilting and why she is known as The Reluctant Quilter. We will also view and vote on our Don't Touch the Quilts challenge.

March 15, 2022 Zoom Meeting - Jane Haworth is going to tailor her fabric collage lecture to help inspire us with our "Picture This" challenge. She has a unique method of transforming a picture into a quilt.

February 15, 2022 Zoom Meeting - Have you ever done a quilt block barn tour? They are quite fun. You'll never know what you'll discover along the way, lots of hidden treasures. Liz Dicrescenzo (Joan Shaw's sister) is going to tell us how her quilt guild coordinated the project to establish quilt barn blocks in their community.

January 18, 2022 Zoom Meeting - It's a new year. Let's learn about some new techniques, tips and products. Our Zoom speaker this month is Adele Scott of Ask Adele. Her lecture/demo covers a lot of topics to make our quilting/sewing projects more enjoyable.

2021 Programs

December 21, 2021 Meeting - Our Holiday Party! In light of the current Covid surge, we have decided not to have refreshments so that we can keep our masks on for the entire event. We kindly ask unvaccinated individuals to refrain from attending for their own protection.

The Holiday Meeting begins at 7PM, but arrive early for the Book sale that begins at 6 pm.

Events during the evening include optional cookie exchanges and gift exchanges, games, and show and tell.

  • Gift exchange: Bring a wrapped quilt/sewing related gift ($20)
  • Cookie exchange: package 3 cookies each in 12 bags for 36 total and take home 12 bags. You may include a recipe with your cookies.
November 16, 2021 Meeting - Joan Radell of Bucklebee Bags will discuss "Sticks & Stones - Sewing History, Tips and Tricks". She will have many quilting and sewing items for sale including several new items.
And for members unable to attend, you will be able to join us via Zoom.

October 19, 2021 Meeting - Gail Kessler of Ladyfingers Sewing Studio will bring her vast Accuquilt knowledge and show us how easy it is to learn to use our guild's Accuquilt Studio for lots of projects. She will have door prizes and will also bring quilting items to sell.
And for members unable to attend, you will be able to join us via Zoom.

September 21, 2021 Meeting - The Paint Chip Challenge quilt display and voting.
And for members unable to attend, you will be able to join us via Zoom.

August 17, 2021 Meeting - This is our first in-person guild meeting since February 2020! Our speaker is Denise Martin, whom many members may know from Seamless Sewing Arts Ltd in Phoenixville. Among other topics, Denise will tell us how she happened to open her quilt store in the middle of a pandemic!
Tonight will also be our ice cream social!!
The church asks that we wear masks and we will social distance.
And for members unable to attend, you will be able to join us via Zoom.

July 19,2021 Zoom Meeting - Our speaker this month is Dana Jones, who will be speaking to us from Colorado. Dana is a former editor of Quilters Newsletter Magazine. She is also a published author of "Patinabangay: The Quilts and Quiltmakers of Caohagan Island" and this is the topic we will learn about during our last scheduled Zoom meeting of 2021.

June 15,2021 Zoom Meeting - We welcome Karen Miller from Redbird Quilt Company. Her lecture is titled "Align Your Free Motion Quilting Stars." In this program Karen says "I will share hoards of quilts and projects from my trunk and talk in detail about the projects that I quilted on my home machine. I point out key factors that help you become successful at domestic machine quilting. Let's avoid those FMQ Pitfalls and align YOUR Free Motion Quilting Stars!! It's informative, fun and inspiring!" May 18,2021 Zoom Meeting - Presidential Trunk Show presented by current and past presidents. We will see their early quilts, favorite quilts, new quilts, and find out how they began quilting and also how they became involved in the guild.

April 20,2021 Zoom Meeting - Our speaker in April will be Valerie Prideaux from Ontario, Canada. During the pandemic Valerie made thousands of tumbler blocks and used them to make an incredible variety of quilts, from traditional to modern to art quilts. There will be a drawing for a door prize of pre-cut tumbler blocks and an acrylic template for one lucky attendee at this month's Zoom meeting. March 16,2021 Zoom Meeting - Sue Sherman joins us from Canada to share her Quilting Journey of a Renaissance Woman with our guild. Sue has won quilting awards on several continents. February 16, 2021 Zoom Meeting - Our speaker, Carrie Zizza, is a high-energy quilter from Amesbury, Massachusetts. Carrie's topic is "A Deep Dive into Thread, Batting and Fabric." She will be sharing a video with us in early February as an introduction to her talk, so get ready to be entertained and possibly laugh until you cry. You can check Carrie out at www.ItsAZizza.com.

January 19,2021 Zoom Meeting - We continue our international speaker's series with Judy Kirk from Canterbury, England. Her topic for our meeting is "What Makes It Modern?" She will also include tips and tricks she's picked up during her 25 years of quilting. Judy is a member of the Modern section of the Quilters Guild of the British Isles and also the US-based international Modern Quilt Guild. You can learn more at Judy's website.

2020 Programs

December 15,2020 Zoom Meeting - Our Holiday Social - Come celebrate the holidays with chatter, fun, games and a mini workshop. Be sure to wear your most festive sweater and don't forget those reindeer antlers! Mark your calendar to join everyone at 7:00.

Shadow Box QuiltDuring the December social we are going to make one block for a Shadow Box quilt. You can make one block and use it as a mug rug or keep making blocks until you have a king size quilt!

You can use 10 inch squares (a Layer Cake), 5 inch squares (a Charm pack), or 2 1/2 inch squares (a Mini Charm pack). You'll also need a medium to dark fabric for the "shadow" and also a background fabric.

Go to Jordan fabrics Shadow Box pattern to:
  • Download a free pattern using 10" squares (plus shadow and sashing strips) to make a 61" X 85" quilt.

  • Watch Donna Jordan's Shadow Box video.

  • If desired, purchase a pattern that has instructions for a throw, twin, queen, and king size quilt by using more blocks.
Note that you will soon receive an email with supplies and cutting instructions to use for the 5 inch and 2 1/2 inch squares.

November 17,2020 Zoom Meeting - Melissa Marginet joins us from Manitoba, Canada. Her topic for our November Zoom meeting is "Myth-Quilting is an Expensive Hobby." Melissa will show quilts she's made at a very low cost and tell us all her money making secrets. Check out her "free stuff" at melissamarginet.ca/.

October 20,2020 Zoom Meeting - Our speaker for the October meeting is Lisa Walton from Sydney Australia. Lisa's Zoom topic is "Leap and the Net Will Appear." September 15,2020 Zoom Meeting - Our September Zoom meeting will feature Brita Nelson speaking on the topic "Now You See It, Now You Don't, The Magic of Disappearing Blocks". She will show members how to use easy-to-put-together blocks and magically change them. Brita is a member of Main Line Quilters and has many enthusiastic supporters from that guild.

August 18, 2020 Zoom Meeting - Our August Zoom meeting will feature our newest members who have joined Valley Forge Homestead Quilters within the last three years. Each one will share their story of how they became interested in quilting and joined our guild.

July 21, 2020 Zoom Meeting - Dawn Heefner is a certified quilt appraiser with a vast knowledge and experience in dating and valuing historical quilts. Dawn also appraises recently made quilts and she is excited about presenting her new topic "I'm a Current Quilter. Why do I need an appraisal?" If you have entered a quilt show, mailed one of your quilts or thought you might, you will want to attend this virtual meeting. Look for your Zoom invitation several days ahead of our meeting. You may recognize several of the featured quilts from previous guild show and tells!

June 16, 2020 Zoom Meeting - Cheryl Lynch will present "On Becoming a Fabric Designer."

May 19, 2020 Our first Zoom meeting!

March and April meetings were cancelled.

February 22, 2020 - Our first "Saturday Special" from 9 to 10 am
  • Karen Eckmeier will present "Happy Villages and Accidental Landscapes".
  • Karen will bring her books and patterns for sale, including her newest items.
  • Open to all guild members for free.
  • Welcome to visitors for a $5.00 fee.
Note that the Happy Villages workshop will follow from 11 am until 5 pm for those who signed up and paid.

February 18, 2020 - An in house program with demonstrations of free-motion quilting, a special totally machine-sewn binding, and intro to Silhouette Cameo. All demos will be via our projector onto the big screen!

January 21, 2020 - Cyndi Hershey, representing the Kutztown Folk Festival Quilt Barn, will discuss how to enter a quilt (from wall-hanging to king size) in a competition.
