Clips from Chris
I do realize one might find it hard to
think about wool on a hot summer night; however since the return from my mini
vacation in Vermont at the quilt festival with friends— Sally, Jean, Laura, and
Barb—I must say I have a different feeling about wool. First of all, the log cabin Sally and I
shared for the weekend was wonderful. Each room was decorated in various
themes. Our room had a moose theme,
(although I still want to see the real thing), the bed had a neat wool cover;
unfortunately I wasn’t able to take advantage of the warmth it had to offer,
but truly appreciated its beauty.
Secondly, Jean and I had the opportunity during the weekend to attend a
lecture about wool. So what better way
to continue with the wool theme then to have our friend Jackie from Quilters
Palette visit and share with us information on wool quilts at our upcoming
meeting. What better motivation for me
to play with all of my newly purchased wool, oh what fun. See you all at guild. (Thankfully we’ll have ice cream to keep us
cool!)

July Meeting –
Our July meeting will begin with our traditional
Ice Cream Social. Then Jackie Gauker,
owner of Quilters Palette, will present a program on wool quilts. She
will show many items made from wool and bring wool fabric as well as wool kits
to sell. It's a different kind of program and should be
interesting. Quilter’s Palette is located at
Visit and Lunch at St. Chris’
On June 13, Norma Brechbiel, Gerry
Fontaine, Shirley Horning, Sally Rapp, Judy Snook, and Marie Tressler visited
St. Christopher Children’s Hospital. The
group presented to the staff 36 quilts, 66 knitted preemie hats and 200 books
for the children. In appreciation for
these items, the six ladies were given a tour of the hospital and stayed for a
delicious lunch. Let’s continue to make
those children’s quilts and hats for this truly worthy cause. Also continue to save your gently used
children’s books, they are also greatly appreciated. Good job to these ladies and to our guild
members who so generously made the quilts and hats.

Our
Bees are open to all members of the Valley Forge Homestead Quilters Guild. They offer an opportunity to share quilting
information and renew friendships. We
work on our own hand projects (as there’s
not usually room for sewing machines); we assist each other by suggesting
ways to layout quilt blocks, work with colors, etc.; and we enjoy each others
company in a smaller venue. Please check
your calendar and see if you are able to join one (or both) of the Bees. If you would like to host one of the Bees,
please contact Jean Hayden (Afternoon Bee) or Beth Quigley (Evening Bee).

Fat Quarter Raffle
The
current Quarter Raffle drawing will occur at September’s guild meeting. The fabric theme for this time is Thimbleberries.
To participate, simply bring a fat quarter, place it in the designated
basket, along with your name, and you’ll be eligible for the drawing to win
them all! You will receive one chance to win for each fat
quarter you contribute. The guidelines are simple:
1.
The fabric must be a fat quarter measuring 18" X 22".
2.
It should be washed and ironed
3.
It must keep to the announced theme
4. It should be “quilt-shop-quality” fabric
Any
questions, contact Jean Corday.

The
Guild will again have a table at Quilt Odyssey 2008:
Here’s
how it works: You and 3 others will share a half-day shift, during which time
you’ll enjoy the show for an hour, then enjoy sitting and selling raffle
tickets for an hour… trading off with others during your shift every other
hour. In other words, during a half-day
shift, you’ll be at the table just 2 hours with an hour break between. Make sense?
If you plan on attending the show, please consider volunteering to sell
raffle tickets with us for a short time. A sign-up sheet will be passed around at guild
meetings (sign up soon—seats at quilt
shows are hard to come by). Thanks so
much!

Great Additions to the Guild Library
In the past few newsletters, we
published lists of new books added to our guild library. These new books were gifts from two of our
members. We are truly grateful to Beth
Lake and Beth Quigley for their generosity.
The books added are welcome additions and will be very helpful to us all. Thanks!
Our Quilt Show Update
August 19 is the deadline for Quilt
Show entry forms. Don’t miss out! If
you’re not sure if you’ll have a potential entry done in time, submit the form
anyway – it’s much easier for the organizers to take-away than it is to add. Please don’t wait until the last minute – if
we can enter the information gradually, it will be so much easier. Remember you can submit three (3) quilts and
all guild activity/workshop quilts.
Registration forms are on the website and if you can send them electronically
to fennell@rosemont.edu (Cathy Fennell), again it makes the entry easier (if
you’re unsure about submitting your forms on-line, you’ll find easy directions
on the web site). Send your entries
individually or as a group. (If using
snail mail send to Cathy Fennell, 32 Clearfield Ave., Eagleville, PA
19403). Mark your calendar, the deadline
for entries is August 19, 2008.
The next meeting of the chair people
for the quilt show will be September 8, 2008 at 7:00. We will meet at The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints off Trooper Road in Trooper, PA (map available on the guild
web site).

Thanks to our Boutique Leaders
Hello my friends,
I wanted to say thank you for all of your hard work to make our boutique
meeting a great success. Everything was awesome, I feel bad I kept
going from table to table and not finishing all I started, Now I have lots of homework. It was so nice to
learn from our fellow members. I now have a greater appreciation for
appliqué, yoyos & fabric folding. Again thank you for a job well
done, you are all so talented.

Travelers to the Vermont Quilt Show

Barb Jones, Jean Hayden, Laura Chaplar, Sally Rapp, and Chris Candello. Sally exhibited her BOM Quilt for 2007. A great trip was had by all and
congratulations to Sally for having her quilt accepted.

Looking for Artists/Quilters
The YWCA Tri-County Area is
celebrating its 100th Anniversary, as well as holding its 19th annual Women’s
Festival of Art to showcase the talented women artists in our area on Friday,
October 10th and Saturday, October 11th.
The exhibit will be held at the Montgomery County Community College West
Campus, 101 Campus Drive, Pottstown, in conjunction with the Schuylkill River
Festival. On Friday, October 10th, there
will be an opening reception for artists, guests, and visitors with a preview
show and sale. This provides visitors a
chance to get to know the artist and to purchase artwork in advance.
This is one of the YWCA’s major annual
fund raisers. For artists, there is a
$25.00 registration fee to apply to the show, and ad sales commission of
30%. All art is welcome! We are even adding a Quilt Show, something
new to the festival this year! For
quilters, there is a $10.00/quilt entry fee to exhibit for the entire 2-day
festival. For those who wish to sell their
quilts (optional) there is a 30% sales commission. Women artists and quilters are all encouraged
to join this event and expose the community to the arts while supporting the
YWCA and its mission.
With your involvement and wonderful
talent, we are able to make a difference in women’s lives and the lives of
their families through support, education, and nurturing. If you have any questions, or would like an
application/sponsor form, please feel free to contact Mary Fisher – mfisher@ywcatricountyarea.org.
