VFHQ News – April 2010

Clips from Chris

Now that spring has sprung and all have survived the new Lancaster AQS show, everyone should be inspired to get busy quilting.  AQS did a great job reorganizing what is normally a great show anyway, into something so much more. There was so much to see and do in such a short time; a whole day truly was not enough; maybe a multi-day plan for next year.  Our group had a wonderful time.  Our van was full to capacity as shopping was all too tempting. Fortunately, we were able to bring allof our goodies home. It was so nice to see many of the Amish inspired quilts. Traditional Amish quilts will always hold a special place in my heart and home.  Let us take time to not only enjoy our quilting hobby, but enjoy all of the things in life that inspires us to do the things we do.  Happy Quilting.
- Chris

50 - 50 with a Twist

The 50/50 with a twist for March was Wheel of Fortune.  The Two contestants chosen were Jean Hayden and Vickie Lopresti.  They took turns choosing a number which had a letter hidden beneath it.  The puzzle was an old saying from Ben Franklin's Poor Richard's Almanac......A Stitch in Time Saves Nine.  Vickie got the answer first and chose the money which was 24 dollars.  Jean received the gift bag which had templar paper, thread, needles, and a lighted seam ripper for those late night negative sewing projects.  A good time was had by all.

Construction methods of several quilt series are covered with step-by-step images, illustrating her layering techniques. The development of these methods has contributed to her experimentation in composition.

Sue’s artwork is in many private, corporate, and institutional collections. She also lectures and teaches workshops nationally and internationally in the fields of surface design, textile collage, fused quilt construction, and artistic inspiration.

½ cup sugar, plus extra for sprinkling

1/3 teaspoon dried lavender flowers – for cooking use not the potpourri kind

Scant 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

1 stick unsalted butter, chilled and diced

1 few springs of fresh lavender to decorate (optional)
