VFHQ News – February 2010

Clips from Chris

Are you tired of the snow, I usually love snow, however lately it is turning into a very bad subject. My snow blower is tired of shredding the newspaper.   I was a bit worried that the snow was going to interfere with our charity day workshop that our dear friend Jean Corday spent months coordinating, but we were fortunate that the weather was only a slight scare as many of our die hard members came out and made our workshop a productive day of quilt making.  I am pleased to report we produced close to 30 quilts, and that doesn’t count the quilts that are ready for quilting, the kits cut, coordinated and ready to be sewn.  A big THANK YOU to all who made this special day so wonderful and fun!  See you all soon.
- Chris

50 - 50 with a Twist

It was the (Barb) Jones family versus the (Marge) Quinn family in the Family Feud at the February meeting.  Marge Quinn won the $27.50 by having the top answer to the question, When do you like to quilt, Morning or Night?  Barb Jones won a magnetic pin holder, thread and fabric.  29 members of The Valley Forge Homestead Quilters like to quilt in the morning and 24 like to, or must, quilt at night.  53 Members responded to the survey.  Thank you for all the help!  Look for Wheel of Fortune at the March meeting.  Tickets are $1 for one or 6 for $5.

Tonight’s Program:  Gloria introduced our speaker, the proprietor of The Quilter’s Palette, Jackie Gauker.   She presented a trunk show of her antique and family heirloom quilts.  She had beautiful examples of whole cloth quilting which was done by her grandmother and great grandmother.  Her family quilts demonstrated the types of fabric and colors being used at that time period.  One of her most intriguing quilts was her family “Eagle” quilt.  Over the years Jackie has found the patterns and templates that were used to create many of her family heirloom quilts. Jackie also has many cross stitched quilts; she said at one time her grandmother made 17 of the same patterned cross stitched quilt!
