VFHQ News – May
2010
Clips from Chris
Now that winter is past, I suddenly
feel the urge to drive. My hubby set
out for a drive to Lancaster County, I, of course having an ulterior motive, fabric,
went along. I suggested to him since it
was a beautiful day, let’s take one of our fun cars but, he was not taking the
car for fear of the Lancaster County roads.
Either way, it was a great time. The weather was great and it was so
nice to visit the shops. It seemed so long since I visited them—one month. Good news is that it appears that all the
shops are stocking their shelves with wonderful fabrics. My game plan while visiting the shops was to
deposit quilt show flyers then, being the wise person that I am, replacing my piles
of flyers with piles of fabric so the hubby would never notice. The plan did not pan out. He became suspicious because the bag weight
never depleted but it grew, so he thought he should check my bag. I did admit to him that I did have to pick up
those “block of the month” fabrics because I was way behind on it. That seemed
to work for him and didn’t inspect my bag.
I guess the real moral of the story is, leave the hubby home when
shopping for fabric or have them ship it home.
Happy Quilting!
- Chris
May Meeting – May 18, 2010
“This Quilt, That's Me or This Quilt,
That's Not Me.” That’s the title of this member participation trunk show.
Members can bring a quilt that they either feel is most like them or feel is
most not like them (we all have them, Quilters). Please remember, one
quilt per person (participation is voluntary—or, in other words, you don’t have
to bring a quilt if you don’t want to).
(Because of Primary Elections we will meet in the Sanctuary this
night.)

Our Quilt Show
Take a moment right now to mark your
calendar to make sure you don’t schedule a vacation or anything else on the
dates of our quilt show which will be held October 22 and 23, 2010 at Good
Shepherd Lutheran Church, King of Prussia, PA.
Please remember that all members are needed to help with this event so
when the sign up sheets come around to help, please sign up! As usual, we will check-in our quilts at our
October 19, 2010 guild meeting. The
registration form will be available later this month (you’ll use one form for
each quilt you’re exhibiting). You may
exhibit 3 quilts in the main exhibition areas (one of which can be bed-size);
and you may exhibit any of your guild activity quilts (in the “workshop” room).
Boutique: For those of us who are working (or will be working) on items
for our Quilt show Boutique, you'll find the related forms in the
Administrative section of our web site under "forms." There is
a form for items you intend to donate and a form for items you intend to sell
on consignment (both can be found in the same file).
Quilt
Committee Chairs will meet on May 10 at 7:00 at Steve’s in
King of Prussia.
50 - 50 with a Twist
"Jeopardy" was the 50-50
With a Twist game of the night. The
contestants were Chris Candello and Cathy Fennell. Cathy won $28.50 for her "stash" by
having the correct question. The
audience did an excellent job providing the musical interlude, just like on the
real show. Keep up the good work! Look for another exciting game in May. Tickets are still 1 for a $1 or 6 for $5.

Welcome
Diana Heiney, our newest member, is an
attorney who lives in Wayne, PA. She
heard about us at the quilt shop and from our representatives at our raffle
quilt table at Quilt Odyssey. Diana has
been sewing for as long as she can remember and her aunt, the family
seamstress, taught her to hand stitch doll clothes when she was five or six. She made her own clothes up through graduate
school. Diana has always had an interest
in quilting but not the time. Due to her
inclination towards packsatitis, she didn’t want to start a stash but succumbed
to this desire in 2002. Diana enjoys
designing and making quilt tops the most, preferably scrappy or ones that have
a visual intricacy of some sort. She has
completed a bed-size quilt and likes to make quilts that have meaning for
her. Diana also enjoys woodworking, stained
glass, reading, all varieties of needlework and cooking. She is currently not working outside the home
but has a wonderful and understanding husband and a seventeen-year-old son. She
also has an aging lady Labrador although in the past they’ve had a cat, five
hermit crabs, a starfish, and a snake or two came to visit for a while.
Welcome, Diana.

Congratulations!
Mary Molettiere had entered her “Storybook Farm”
quilt into the county Line Quilters Shows last month and won two ribbons. Her quilt was made from the McKenna Ryan
series of patterns (the patterns were so kindly borrowed from Beth Quigley and
the fabrics were purchased in Maryland while on the Ricky Tims
trip with Valley Forge Quilt Guild. She
won both a Vendor’s Choice Ribbon and an Honorable Mention Viewer’s Choice
Ribbon. Here is Mary in December with
her “winning” quilt. Great job!
Gail
Forster sent her quilted Oriental wall hanging to the Denver National
Quilt Show and recently heard that it was accepted as part of the show. She made this particular quilt during the
past snowy winter. She said it was fun to get the acceptance
letter. Gail also commented that it is
“sad, my wall hanging gets to travel more than I do”. Here is Gail with her quilt at our February
meeting. You go, girl!

June Meeting Preview – June 15, 2010
Enjoy our wonderful annual picnic as
well as listen to Polly Mello tell us about “Quilts That Go Bump In the Night”. This is not about Halloween
quilts. It's a trunk show of quilts representing unusual events,
including historical disasters. Recommended by Dawn
Heefner and all of us who met Polly at Quilt Odyssey. Please
remember to make this a successful picnic, we do rely
on all our members to bring one of the following.
- If your last name begins with A—F,
bring a dessert
- If your last name begins with G—L,
bring a salad or hors d’oeuvre
- If your last name begins with M—Z,
bring a main dish
Recipe - Irish Scone
Grease 10 inch iron skillet or a
bunt pan
4 cups sifted flour
1 cup sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1tsp salt
4 or 5 large handfuls raisins
2 large eggs
2 cups buttermilk
Preheat oven 375. Sift flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, add raisins and mix well to coat
raisins so they do not drop to the bottom of the scone while cooking. Beat eggs lightly with a fork, pour into
the dry mixture, add buttermilk and mix real wel. Mixture will be wet,
pour into prepared pan, level the mixture with a fork so it is
even and put into pre-heated oven. Bake
for 1 hour, turn out on to a cooling tray. Let
cool then enjoy with butter and a cup of tea.
Do not cut like a cake, cut scone in half then slice down to make a slice.
Enjoy.
