VFHQ News – March 2007
Lines from Lou
Ah yes! We’re finally into March, which my
semi-optimistic psyche considers the beginning of Spring. And—while admittedly a bit snow remains on
the ground—it is actually starting to feel like spring! So today I’m finally packing away the last of
the Christmas decorations and I may actually send off the last of the Christmas
presents. Who knows, I might even
conquer my printer problems and finish the Christmas cards. I don’t know if it’s my enthusiasm for Spring
or unadulterated shame that’s motivating this exuberant completion of
long-awaited projects, all I know is
that I must clear away anything that’s not springy.
And now that
I’ve admitted my extreme procrastination, don’t you all feel better about
yourselves? I’m happy to be able to lift
your spirits—it’s the least I can do on this beautiful spring day.
Best

March Meeting –
At our March
meeting we will learn from and enjoy Mary Anne Ciccotelli
as she demonstrates the “Needle and Thread Approach to the Folded Hexagon.” During
this lecture, each person will be supplied with a pre-cut hexagon to fold as
the demonstration is illustrated during a power point presentation.
Actual samples of each step will also be available for review.
Participants should bring a sewing kit.
These hexagons could be used to make the Folded Hexabags.
These and additional folded fabric projects will be displayed at the
presentation. For more information,

Celebrate National Quilting Day –
We quilters
have our own special holiday – National Quilting Day! Whether you observe the
day alone, with a few friends, or with a large group, we invite you to join
with quiltmakers and quilt enthusiasts across the
country for this special celebration.
National Quilting Day gives us the opportunity to reflect with pride on
the traditions of quiltmaking and the contributions quiltmakers have made to their families and communities for
many generations. NQA began sponsoring National Quilting Day with a resolution

Joan Lautensack, who resides in
Janet Lentz
lives in Conshohocken and found us on the Internet. Her mother-in-law taught her to quilt in 1982
and since then has made several large quilts and many small ones. She enjoys making wall hangings and laments
that she—like many of us—does not have enough time for her favorite hobby,
quilting. Besides quilting, Janet enjoys
reading and has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
She is a quality manager for a chemical company, is married and has a

Fat Quarter Raffle
We all need
more fabric - right? Perhaps the newly initiated Fat Quarter
Raffle—which we hold quarterly—may bring more fabric your way. Simply
bring a fat quarter, place it in the designated basket and your name will then
be entered to win them all! You will receive one chance to
win for each fat quarter you contribute. The guidelines are simple:
1. The
fabric must be a fat quarter measuring 18" X 22"
2. It
should be washed and ironed
3. It
must keep to the announced theme
4. It must be “quilt-shop-quality” fabric
Our second
raffle will be in April. For our April drawing the theme is Batik
fabrics, this fabric is widely available at all the quilt shops. The
basket will be available in March and then again in April, so bring your fat
quarter whenever you can. Any questions, contact Linda Hamel.

Interested in Doing Quilt Repair?
The other
evening at our meeting a gentleman asked if there was anyone interested in
repairing two quilts. If you are interested please contact him directly,
you may either email or call him. If you are emailing him under the
subject make sure you specify "Quilt repair" so that he doesn't
accidentally delete the message. He did mention that he has
the fabric to do the necessary repairs on both quilts,
he just needs the talent and is willing to pay for the repairs. His name
