VFHQ News – May 2007

Lines from Lou

Those of you who were at our last guild meeting saw a preview of our new web site design and approved it with some enthusiasm.  We plan to “go live” with it by June 1st.  But while we celebrate the new, we must also honor the old.  Our web site was originally initiated and built by Donna Parmet, who was a member of our guild until recently when she gave birth to twins.  This pioneering effort was truly heroic and required tremendous amounts of work.  Subsequently, Susan Glaser accepted the challenge and spent unbelievably long hours updating the material and fixing old links.  This and the on-going task of keeping it up-to-date has been such a time-consuming effort because the current web site is built on old software that demands tedious concentrated effort.  And so, as we initiate the new web site, built on state-of-the-art software, we should all express our thanks to those who built and maintained the foundation.   Thank you so much, Donna and Susan, for your dedicated and highly skilled efforts.

To all my co-quilters:

I have put off sending a thank you to all of you, until I had positive news to report from my ordeal with breast cancer.  I am pleased to say that I only have 1 more chemo to go and then the surgery followed by radiation and that the doctor has told me that he is most pleased with my progress and response to the chemo.

The love and support that I have received from family, friends, co-quilters and even strangers, has both encouraged me and kept me in good spirits with high expectations.  I cannot thank you all enough for

your warm and loving thoughts, cards and emails.
  Cynthia DiLorenzo

Proceeds

The funds raised by the raffle quilt are earmarked for two purposes.  1) our guild programs and quilt-related education, and 2) charitable contributions.  Proceeds from last raffle quilt have gone to the following charities:  Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, King of Prussia, PA; AQS Museum, Paducah, KY; Valley Forge Homestead Quilters Comfort Quilt committee, King of Prussia, PA, and the Hospitality Center, Norristown, PA 19401 (which offers resources to homeless people to enable them to get back on their feet).

Welcome New Members

Sherlee Hilberg resides in Phoenixville, Pa and heard about us from Winnie Sponts.  Although she considers herself a novice quilter, Sherlee enjoys all types of quilt projects and has completed a bed-size quilt.  Sherlee also enjoys knitting and reading. Welcome!

Welcome to Patricia Brant, also of Phoenixville, PA and also heard about us from Winnie Sponts.  Patricia has been quilting and sewing for almost 50 years.  She became interested through her friends, TV and quilt shows.  She enjoys all types of quilt projects but especially landscape quilts.   Patricia is a homemaker and does not work but enjoys oil painting, pastels and sewing.

Fatima Gespo lives in Glenmoore, PA and heard about the guild through her friend Carol Friesen.  She has been quilting for about 15 years and began quilting through her mother influence.  She enjoys appliqué and quilting by hand the most.  Fatima has completed many bed-size quilts and also enjoys cooking, reading, gardening and music.  Fatima can spend time quilting as she does not work outside her home.  She has been married for 28 years to a man that inspires and supports her dream of quilting.  She also has an adorable son and daughter. Welcome!

Welcome to Gerry Higgins of Phoenixville, PA who heard about us through one of our members.  Gerry has been sewing for 40+ years and quilting for about 5/6 years.  She took a beginner quilt class as another way to use her sewing skills.  She likes to make purses, jackets, and vests.  Gerry also enjoys knitting, cross stitch and sewing.  Gerry is a physical therapist.  She is married and has two grown daughters.
